Charles H. Spurgeon

Recommendation:   5/5

Description of author:  Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) was a Baptist preacher in London.

Comments:  This volume contains 38 sermons by Spurgeon on texts having to do with prayer.  Over the years I have read many books on prayer, but I think this is the most outstanding work I have ever read on the subject.  As in all his sermons, Spurgeon exhibits sound Biblical theology, profound spiritual insight, and a masterful use of the English language.  The sermons that especially stood out in my mind within this volume were ‘Lead Us Not into Temptation’ (p. 269); ‘Peter’s Shortest Prayer’(p. 284); and ‘I Will; yet, Not as I Will’ (p. 455).
