Robert D. Culver

Recommendation:  5/5

Description of author:   Dr. Culver is Professor of Theology at Winnipeg Theological Seminary.  He has also held teaching positions at Trintiy Evangelical Divinity School, Wheaton College, and Grace Theological Seminary.

Comments:  One of the most formidable tasks for any Bible student is to take the four Gospels and harmonize them into a life of Christ.  Although this is a difficult task, the results are extremely illuminating and helpful.  Dr. Culver has given us an incredibly helpful, readable, and relatively concise life of Christ.  As I read this I was amazed at how many issues he covered thoroughly yet concisely.  He also displays a great deal of scholarship along the way.  He is fair in his dealings with opposing views, yet he is thoroughly evangelical and conservative in his dealings with the text of Scripture.  If you would like to better understand the chronological, geographical, social, and (to a lesser degree) theological aspects of the life of Christ, this would be an excellent volume to not only read, but study. He also introduces the reader to some of the important literature on the subject.  Subject and scripture indexes are included.
